PHYSICAL DETOX

Self-Reflexology

Feet, an often-overlooked part of the body, are the foundation of all movement. They support our weight, they take us places, and they connect us to the ground. Taking care of your feet is an important element of taking care of your overall physical health. Your physical detox for this chapter is to spend some time and attention on the care of your feet, specifically through reflexology. Reflexology, the application of specific pressure to hands and feet, is an ancient art and alternative therapy method originating in Chinese and Egyptian cultures.

In your personal self-reflexology therapy you are going to use a simple tennis ball, lacrosse ball, or golf ball. From a standing position, place your ball of choice under one of your feet and gently apply body-weight pressure onto that foot, pressing your foot into the ball. Glide and roll the ball back and forth along your foot, from the top of the toes to the bottom of the heel. Be sure to tilt your foot inwardly as well in order to allow the ball to hit pressure points along the inner arch of your foot. Finish your reflexology session by spending a minute making small circles with the ball around the surface area of the heel. Once you have performed this upon one foot—which should take about two minutes in total—switch feet and repeat the process.

As you work on each foot, know that the work you do on your left foot will correspond to a benefit for the left side of your body and all of your organs and valves found there, and vice versa for the right side of your body. Incorporate self-reflexology at least three times per week for healthy feet and a healthy body.
